DANILO PEREZ (Dad):
Born and raised in Panama, Danilo Perez is considered by the New York Times as "the best thing that happened to jazz at the turn of the millenium." Perez serves as UNESCO Artist For Peace, Cultural Ambassador of the Republic of Panama, Artistic Director of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, and Artistic Director of the Panama Jazz Festival . In previous years, he served as Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF.
Grammy award winner Danilo Pérez is among the most influential and dynamic musicians of our time. He performs and works in social projects all over the world on a regular basis.
Perez has been awarded numerous awards for his philantrophic work in Panama, the rest of Latin America and the world. Danilo has been teaching music for over 30 years in every continent. He is currently changing the face of music education with his innovative Berklee Global Jazz Institute, located in Boston, Massachusetts where he teaches students from all over the world how they can use their musical excellence to make the world a better place.
PATRICIA ZARATE (Mom):
Born and raised in Chile, saxophonist Patricia Zarate holds a Bachelor Degree in Music Therapy from Berklee College of Music and a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from New York University. She is currently a Doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, in the Global Development and Social Inclusion Department. In addition, Zarate has worked as a teaching assistant of ethnomusicology at University of Maryland, a teaching assistant of saxophone performance at Howard University, and also studied Music Pedagogy at Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación in Chile. She has taught master classes about Music and Social Activism and the healing aspects of music in different parts of the world for over 20 years. She currently serves as Founder/Director of the Boston Center For Multicultural Music Therapy, Executive Director of the Panama Jazz Festival, and is an Associate Profesor of Music and Social Activism at Berklee College of Music
